What's the Difference Between Sorbet and Sherbet?

Do penguins have knees? Why are coupons worth 1/100 of a cent? Why do you drive on a parkway and park on a driveway? Life's puzzles are endless, but luckily the answer to the difference between sherbet and sorbet is easy enough.

This question presented itself after a trip to Mitchell's in the city. Giancarlo had ordered a delightfully refreshing white peach sorbet (pictures to follow). He's also a huge fan of rainbow sherbet. Thus the question came into our minds.

The long awaited answer: sorbet contains no dairy ever. Lactose intolerant people of the earth, rejoice! Sherbet, on the other hand, can contain soy, egg whites, milk and/or cream.

There you go--another one of life's mysteries solved.
